U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Postpones Initial Central Valley Project Water Supply Declaration
February 29, 2016
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has postponed their initial Central Valley Project Water Supply declaration, citing a fifth consecutive year of below average precipitation and the Governor’s Emergency Drought Proclamation. “This delay is in anticipation of gathering more accurate information regarding our current water supplies, hydrologic conditions and environmental commitments.” Subsequently, the letter states: “Reclamation will provide the initial expected declaration for Water Made Available to CVP contractors in the following weeks.”
A copy of Reclamation’s letter dated February 29, 2016 can be viewed here. The District initially declared a water shortage emergency on February 27, 2014, and is presently at Stage 3 – Severe Water Shortage, of its Water Shortage Contingency Plan.
